Of Doctors Visits, Wraps, and Cribs

Sorry for the lag in posting. Time flys by when the AC breaks in 90 degree weather (that is over 32 C, too hot for an infant (or so believes the mother who has to feed said in infant in close body contact)) and with a trip to the Emergency Room at three in the morning (Sebastien was fine the whole time. But we did learn the extrememly valuable lesson that thermometer covers should not be used with the 5 second digital thermometer. It consistently increases readings by 2 degrees F).  That would be the previous weekend in a nutshell.

The big news for last week would be the addition of Mia Linda Lee-Bishop . daughter of my sister, to the extended family. She was born June 1, some time in the morning. 20 inches long. 7lbs 3 oz. (Sebastien could flatten her with a sneeze.)

Today Sebastien visited the doctor for a well baby visit. (Never visit Pediatricians on a Monday, all the newborns from the weekend get squeezed in for visits, so everyone runs late.)  Sebastien has been growing at a whopping 1.5ozs a day and weighs in at a stunning 15 lbs 11 ozs! 24.5 inches long. 16 inch head circumference.  We can at least say that we grow babies well.  While the visit is called well visit, they sent him home with four holes in his legs for four vaccinations. So we have a cranky baby (who is currently sleeping, may he spend a lot of the night that way.)

Our cranky baby is sleeping in His Room in His Crib! For the third night in a row!  It turns out the Bassinet he was in was only rated to a 15 lb baby. Not our child. So we could put him in a pack-n-play or in his crib.  Turns out, according to our doctor, that the Pediatric association recommends babies sleeping in their parents rooms till four to six months (the time when infants have passed the greatest risk of SIDS). Our doctor figures parents sleep better if the child goes to his own room and learns that his crib is good place to be.  Right now we are siding with our pediatrician.  What this means is several trips down stairs for me to feed Sebastien and a trip for Mihai to soothe a baby that awakens before an Approved Feeding Time.

I purchased a wrap last week with the idea that i could wear Sebastien around the house and get more house work done.... (or just keep him closer).  We will also be flying to Indy at the end of the month to show off our child and to meet Mia, so it will be handy for breast feeding on the airplane. 4.6 meters of fabric arrived in the mail on Saturday.  I think I might actually have to watch the DVD that came with it to learn how to properly wear the thing! (At least I don't have to read :)  We went for a walk along one of the many trails in the area (again with a cranky baby).  The wrap did come in handy, he went to sleep on the walk back!

After the trip to the ER. Note the THREE bandages from where they attempted to get blood!

A family portrait (taken by Debby when she and daughter Elena came to meet Sebastien). Sebastien is smiling!

You look fabulous Rina! Hope I even feel as good, never mind look so slim and slender, when I'm 2 months out... Seems so far away some days. What a beautiful family. My advice about the wrap, keep on wrapping, don't give up, it does take lots of practice. Just like breastfeeeding, eh? See you soon! Can't wait!
