Not a bad winter after all

This winter hasn't been too bad after all (though I still expect 2' of snow on St. Paddy's). At least we are not in Switzerland:

Since we've been suckered into believing winter was over we spent a good chunk of Sunday cleaning up our yard. This activity literally bit me in the back-side: I woke up on Monday with a tick tightly lodged in my rear. Fortunately Marina's steady hand, developed while dissecting tetrads or injecting fish embryos, managed to retrieve the little bugger and all's well again.

Speaking of Marina, she's still enjoying pregnancy, though anxiety has started to set in regarding the size of Brioche.  Today's estimate puts him around 7.5 lbs which seems to be at the limit of what Marina's hoping for.  We'll see if she can manage to convince Brioche to leave his cozy home before he gets too fat.  Could her success or failure be a foreshadowing of our ability to convince Brioche in the future?

For the fellow sailors among you, the Volvo ocean race will soon be in Baltimore.  Most of the boats have reached Rio and they are expected here sometime in the middle of April.  You can follow their progress at http://www.volvooceanrace.com.  Don't forget to check out some of the video clips.  If you ever thought of sailing in the Southern Ocean, the clips might discourage you.

Finally, if  you are worried about credit card fraud, here's a useful internet resource:

I'm very concerned about protecting my credit cards from internets theft, but the Card Check application doesn't seem to be working from your blog. I will be sending all my credit card numbers with expiration dates to you by email for you to check. Just in case you need it, I'm going to include my social security number and birthdate. I would appreciate a timely response. Thank you very much. --mike

Regarding the hope for a 7.5 pounder, I am compelled to note that that your soon to be child's cousin was merely 8.5 lbs at birth. So Brioche's weight is about 88.23% of the way to 8.5 lbs.

    Time for a quiz.

If Brioche is 88.23% of the way there at 37 weeks, how many total weeks will Brioche need before popping out of the oven.

Answer: 42 weeks 1 hour 6 minutes or sometime on April 15th.

As for the Credit Card Check, nice try Mihai! I know you were hoping for some of us to send you our credit card information so you could buy a trip to follow the sailing race!

SERIOUSLY: I would discourage anyone from submitting their credit card number on any website. Your best bet is to monitor your statement closely, call your credit card company if you suspect anything, and remember that nearly all credit card companies will hold you liable for $0 of any fraudulent activity...as long as you report suspicious activity right away.
